The Flight of Dr. Frank Bell

Arcadia

Dr. Frank Bell, a dentist, was an early-day hero to many kids in Billings, Montana. On Memorial Day 1913, he flew his open-frame Curtiss O-X-F biplane from Billings to Laurel and Pak City and back. It was the longest flight made in Montana until 1916. Bell took off from a vacant lot at the north end of North Twenty-seventh Street. This photograph depicts a 1913 flight over South Park during the opening of the new park. (Courtesy of James M. Reich)
