Pensacola: The Bayou Texar Bridge, 1911

Arcadia

Built in 1911, the Bayou Texar Bridge was one of the first bridge constructed in Pensacola. The wooden structure cost $3,700, and was 1,050 feet long and 20 feet wide. East Pensacola Heights, on the north east side of the bridge, began to develop as a residential neighborhood. The name “Texar” is from the Spanish meaning “a place where bricks are made.” There were many brickyards along the bay at one time.
