National Bank of Commerce of Seattle, 1889

Arcadia

National Bank of Commerce of Seattle (NB of C), founded in 1889, was the strong second player in Seattle’s banking world. In 1974, while building a downtown tower to rival Seafirst’s, NB of C changed its name to Rainier Bank. In 1988, Rainier sold out to California’s Security Pacific Bank, which soon afterward sold out to Bank of America. Some former Rainier branches were sold to Idaho’s WestOne Bank, which merged into U.S. Bank. (From "Argus Annual," Pacific Publishing.)
