Stengel Field

Arcadia

Stengel Field, near the present location of Butler Plaza on Archer Road, was used as an airport. Carl Stengel ran a flight school here that was very popular with University of Florida students. He first started giving his lessons at the site of Gainesville Regional Airport in the 1930s before the military took it over. Stengel served as the first manager of Gainesville’s airport.
