Description for Records:

Mes Aynak (“Little Copper Well”) is an archeological dig site located southeast of Kabul in Afghanistan. The site has yielded a rich repository of Buddhist era artifacts, including more than 200 Stupas, and a 100 acre temple-complex.

The site may hold the remains of civilizations as far past as 300 B.C.E.

Due to insurgent activity in the area, the site is scheduled to be destroyed in December, 2012.

As a result of this, and the already difficult ground situation, further research may not be possible.
